Meet Steven M. Abrams

 

Steven M. Abrams is a litigation attorney licensed to practice in South Carolina and the District of Columbia who concentrates his practice on civil remedies for electronic and internet privacy violations, defamation, computer law, cyber security policy and procedures, computer forensics and e-discovery. 

 

Mr. Abrams has worked for nearly 30 years as a digital forensics instructor and investigator.  He completed over 1100 investigations for a wide variety of clients including the U.S. embassies in Mexico and Albania. 

 

An attorney since 2007, Mr. Abrams has worked on dozens of legal cases involving internet privacy violations, anonymous electronic defamation and hacking. 

 

As a trained investigator and a lawyer, Mr. Abrams has a unique set of skills that can help law firms and their clients enhance their ability to maneuver the ever changing field of cyber technology through strategic advice as a co-counsel or subject matter legal expert during cases.

 

A 2007 magna cum laude graduate of the Charleston School of Law, Mr. Abrams also has a master’s degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and computer science from Allegheny College.  He also has done coursework at Hofstra University and the School of Law at Kings College at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

 

Through the years, Mr. Abrams has published articles, given speeches and taught continuing legal education courses in cyber law and computer forensics to members of the military, law enforcement, private investigators and attorneys. He currently holds a law enforcement commission from the Governor of South Carolina, and regularly assists federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. He has been honored with several awards by law enforcement officials for his work.

 

Cyber Practice

 

Mr. Abrams advises law firms and companies on data protection, privacy issues and legal strategies in an array of areas, including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), Stored Communications Act (SCA), Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

Mr. Abrams is an expert digital forensics examiner certified in extracting evidence from computers and servers, mobile communications devices (smartphones, tablets), digital storage media, "the Cloud", and social media websites.

Mr. Abrams advises other law firms in the area of cyber security, conducts cyber security audits to find their weaknesses and to draft industry standard cyber security policies and procedures to reduce and harden their "attack surfaces" and limit thier liability in the event of a breach.
